Recently, during an inservice, we were discussing vocabulary and creative ways to help students study and learn their vocabulary words. Several great ideas were presented, but my favorite has quickly become Quizlet. You can either access this program online at quizlet.com or download the app onto iPads for quicker access. What I find most beneficial about Quizlet is that the students get to play fun games, and Quizlet will produce a test and grade it for you (what teacher wouldn’t love that!). Reflecting on Technology
For my students, any time they can get their hands on technology, or I let them play on the SmartBoard, they are as happy as can be. Luckily, the week coincided with my 5 Themes unit and is a great opportunity for me to give students a first hand experience with the human geography that is an aspect of the theme Place. Of course, now I just have to turn the projector on, no pushing a t.v. cart around, but the kids still instinctively know that they will not have to listen to me in class that day. I can remember watching movies and wondering, even as a student, what is the point of watching this movie? Continue reading Teaching the 5 Themes Using Movies – Location and Place
